G6ixx Riddim – Shabdon Records

Shab Don Records was already moving like a heavyweight by the time G6ixx Riddim landed in 2019, and this one helped lock in that reputation. The label was driven by Linval “Shabba” Thompson Jr. and Carlos Clarke, with roots in the Salt Spring energy that would soon define a lot of the harder-edged dancehall coming out of Jamaica. By then, Shab Don had become a go-to name for street-rooted records that could travel beyond the local juggling circuit.

G6ixx rides on a dark, militant pulse with a crisp, forward-driving drum pattern and a bassline that leaves plenty of room for the vocals to cut through. It has that cold, late-night dancehall feel: minimal, tense, and built for tunes about gun talk, loyalty, and survival. The project’s strongest pull comes from how different voices bend that same frame in different ways.

Vybz Kartel’s “Any Weather” is the anchor cut, and it became the biggest song tied to the riddim. Chronic Law’s “The Room” adds a stern, roadwise tone, while Jahvillani’s “No Rate Dem” brings his brash, status-chasing style into the mix. Shawn Storm’s “Gangster Life” fits the riddim’s tougher edge cleanly, and Teejay’s “Shub Out” gives the project one of its sharper, more mobile cuts. Squash’s “Rifle” ties the riddim back to the 6ix movement that was central to Shab Don’s early rise.

Released in 2019 and distributed through 21st Hapilos, G6ixx sits right in the run when Shab Don Records was becoming one of dancehall’s most talked-about production houses.
