A taut, late-era dancehall-reggae cut with a rootsy backbone, Fuss Cuss Riddim keeps the energy lean and the chatter sharp across its seven tracks. PayDay Music Group lines up heavy names without crowding the record: Buju Banton comes in hard on “Pressure Dem, ” Bounty Killer snaps off “Dun Fassy, ” and Sizzla’s “Go Thru” pushes the set into more reflective territory before Alaine eases the pace with “Rub A Dub. ” There’s a nice bit of range here, with Linval Thompson adding veteran weight and the Mad Cobra and Bounty Killer pairing on “Madable Sick” giving the riddim its nastiest edge. Released in June 2013, the project runs just 23 minutes, so it moves quick and leaves the strongest impression with Bounty Killer’s “Dun Fassy” and the sharp instrumental that closes it out.
