GT Muzik’s Friction Riddim came out in early 2014 as a lean, hard-driving dancehall set, the sort of strip-down bassline work that leaves plenty of room for hooks and attitude. Beenie Man linking with Silver Cat on “Live We Life” gives the riddim an instant anchor, while Macka Diamond’s “Stop Mad Mi” and Khago’s “Cup To Cup” keep the energy sharp and streetwise. New Kidz, Mikeylous, Villa Dutch, Teknique and T’Nez all ride the cut with different shades of party talk and uplift, and T’Nez’s “Give Thanks” brings a more reflective touch without softening the groove. Released as a 10-track digital package on February 25, 2014, it sits right in that mid-2010s dancehall moment when producers were chasing stripped-back, club-ready riddims with a quick pulse and plenty of character.
