Free Overview
In 2012, a reggae rhythm project brought new life to classic roots sounds. The journey began with a skilled roots craftsman, who carefully shaped the music to echo the traditions of reggae’s golden years. Every instrument and groove was chosen to honor the deep, soulful rhythms of the past, while still feeling fresh for modern listeners. The project found its home with LOCKDOWN PRODUCTIONS, a label known for its commitment to authentic reggae music. LOCKDOWN PRODUCTIONS has a history of working with respected artists in the genre and has helped bring several notable projects to wider audiences. Their attention to detail and love for roots reggae made them the perfect guide for this project. When it came time to select voices for the riddim, the lineup brought together some of reggae’s finest. Tippa Irie delivered “Free,” bringing his unique energy and style. Tippa Irie is well known for his 1986 UK hit “Hello Darling,” and his long career has seen him work with artists like The Black Eyed Peas. Peter Spence added warmth with “Smile,” showcasing the smooth vocals that have made him a favorite in lovers rock circles. Maxi Priest, famous for his international hit “Close to You,” joined with “Dance With Me Baby,” adding star power and a crossover touch. Jb Baker’s “Head Over Heels” and Troublesome’s “Jah Jah Love” each brought their own flavor, rounding out the set. From creation to release, this reggae rhythm project stayed true to its roots.
