Formula Riddim – Gold Spoon Production 1997
Formula Overview
In 1997, the Formula Riddim arrived from Shocking Vibes, a label well known in the dancehall scene. Shocking Vibes built a strong reputation in the 1990s, working with many of Jamaica’s top artists and pushing new sounds to the forefront. The Formula Riddim was one of their standout releases, quickly catching the attention of selectors and fans across the island. The compilation featured a tight lineup of artists, each bringing their own style. Baby Wayne delivered “A Couldn't You,” adding his unique voice to the beat. Baby Wayne was already respected for songs like “Mama” and his work with producer Steely & Clevie. Formula contributed the “Instrumental,” letting the riddim shine on its own for listeners who love pure dancehall energy. General B stepped up with “Run From We.” General B is known for his work as part of the group Monster Shack Crew, which scored hits like “Guinness.” Mr Washington’s “Gone A Lead” and Quick Kill Formula’s “Chrome” added more flavor, keeping the vibe fresh and lively. Other notable tracks included “Monster Trace” by Roundhead and “Hot Eye A Lead” by Vigilante, each adding to the riddim’s variety. The architect behind the riddim, Shocking Vibes, made sure every track fit perfectly together. Even years later, selectors still rate the Formula Riddim as a classic from 1997, full of energy and lasting appeal.
