FORKY RIDDIM produced by LUCMAN PRODUCTION 1999
Forky Overview
If you were at any street dance in Jamaica in 1999, you probably heard the Forky Riddim set. This dancehall collection, produced by LUCMAN PRODUCTION, stood out for its lively horn sections and energy. LUCMAN PRODUCTION is known for bringing new sounds to the bashment scene, and the Forky Riddim was one of their most popular works that year. On this riddim, Don Angelo’s "Guiding Light" brought a smooth and conscious vibe. Don Angelo is respected for his roots reggae work and has been active since the 1980s. Junior Cat’s "Politician" delivered sharp lyrics, showing why he’s known for his powerful voice and social commentary. Merciless, with "Forky," showed his signature style. Merciless was already well-known for his hit "Len Out Mi Mercy" and his lyrical clashes with top artists. "Love Nurse" by Alley Cat & Ian Sweetness added a romantic flavor, while Nardo Ranks’ "Ms Hotty Hotty" gave the dance a playful touch. Nardo Ranks is famous for his 1990 hit "Dem a Bleach." Pad Anthony’s "Sunshine" brought a classic dancehall sound. Compared to other dancehall sets of the late 1990s, Forky Riddim was more melodic and had strong horn riffs, which made it different from the heavy digital beats of that time. The bashment arranger’s role was key, making sure each artist’s song fit perfectly over the riddim. This collection helped define the sound of 1999 street dances.
