“Fire Rock” has a lean, rootsy pulse that feels more like a live-band cut than a glossy dancehall workout. Ranks keeps the arrangement tight and earthy, with enough swing in the drums and bass to let the singers stretch out without crowding the groove. Fantan Mojah opens with “System, ” setting the tone with his militant uplift, while Lukie D teams with Iyunda on the devotional “Jah Never Fail I, ” and Sizzla leans into the tougher edge on “Shake. ” Mr Perfect and Prince Brave Heart keep the set rounded out with conscious, mid-tempo cuts that sit nicely in the pocket. Released in 2015 as a six-song Ranks Productions set, it sits right in that mid-2010s run where reggae riddims were leaning back toward classic feel while keeping the phrasing and pacing current.
