EXODUS RIDDIM produced by TUFF GONG 1977-2006
Exodus Overview
Back in 1990, reggae fans got something special with the release of the Exodus Riddim compilation. This project was built on a strong foundation, with TUFF GONG as the producer. TUFF GONG is a legendary Jamaican label, started by Bob Marley in 1970. It became a home for roots reggae and helped bring the music worldwide. The recording process for the Exodus Riddim was all about keeping the heart of reggae alive. Classic dub sounds and live instruments shaped the tracks, giving them a deep, meditative feel. TUFF GONG made sure the dub roots stayed in every song, keeping that original reggae spirit. Bob Marley And The Wailers set the tone with their famous song "Exodus." This track is one of their best-known hits and was the title song of their 1977 album, which won critical praise and charted internationally. Damian 'jr. Gong' Marley added his own style with "Move!," bringing a new energy to the riddim. Damian is known for his Grammy-winning album "Welcome to Jamrock," and he is Bob Marley's youngest son. Dub Specialist and Tommy Mccook And The Skatalites both recorded their own versions of "Exodus" for this compilation. The Skatalites are legends in Jamaican music, famous for helping create the ska and reggae sound. This compilation was a big part of 1990’s reggae playlists, echoing the conscious vibes of the time.
