Empress Overview

In 2009, reggae music was alive with new energy and roots-inspired sounds. That year saw many artists bringing positive messages and classic reggae rhythms to fans. Among these, a special album collection stood out, adding to the roots reggae output of the time. This collection featured four artists: Cornadoor, Joggo, Zed, and Serengeti. Each artist brought their own style to the project. Cornadoor’s track, “I Know,” showed his smooth vocals and deep roots influence. Cornadoor is known for his soulful voice and has released songs like “Plant Some Trees,” which found fans across Europe. Joggo delivered “Only Jah And I,” a song that reflects his spiritual side and powerful songwriting. Joggo, a Dutch-Surinamese artist, reached wider audiences with his hit “Beware” in 2009, which helped establish him in the international reggae scene. Zed’s contribution, “I - Rasta,” added a strong roots message, fitting well with the classic reggae sound of the collection. Serengeti’s “Walk With An Empress” brought a gentle, uplifting vibe, closing out the set with positive energy. The music was built on a classic reggae riddim, giving each song a familiar but fresh feel. The collection was well-received among selectors and reggae fans, who enjoyed its laidback style and conscious lyrics.
