Edibles Riddim – King Levels Records

2019 was a busy year for the trap-leaning end of dancehall, and Edibles Riddim sits right in that pocket with a short, trimmed-down set from King Levels Records. The project lines up Boasy, Emynenx, Jayphlo, Nahrez and Rising Sonn across seven cuts, including clean and raw versions of “Up Now” and “Yolo, ” which gives it that straight-ahead street-riddim feel without dragging things out. The production leans on a spare, hard-edged pulse rather than anything flashy, letting the voices do the work over a tight low end and clipped percussion. “Pree This” and “Happy Street” keep the energy level steady, but the whole release is really held together by its brisk tempo and the blunt, forward-driving cadence that runs through every track.
