DJ Spooky’s Riddim Come Forward has that archive-digging, late-night flow Trojan did so well in the mid-2000s, moving from ska and rocksteady cuts into dubwise pressure without losing its sense of history. This was issued in October 2006, and the UK/worldwide version runs as a continuous DJ mix rather than a straight compilation, which gives the whole thing a more restless, all-in-one pulse. You hear the shape of it in the stretch from Althea and Donna’s “Uptown Top Ranking” and Dennis Alcapone’s “DJ’s Choice” through Horace Andy, John Holt, King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry, with Spooky’s title cut sitting right in the middle as the hinge. The sequencing feels deliberate: vintage vocal sides, deep roots, then dub and deejay cuts circling back on each other like a lesson in Trojan’s vaults.
