Jammy’s Records was already deep into its run of lean, digital-minded dancehall by 1987, and DJ Confrontation catches that moment in sharp form: tough, clipped rhythms, plenty of room for the deejays, and that Waterhouse pressure in the mix. Admiral Bailey’s “Big Belly Man” and Derrick Irie’s “Slide And Wine” bring the first burst of energy, while Lt Stitchie, Major Worries and Risco Benty lean into the chant-and-commentary side of the style, swapping jokes, social talk and bravado over the same stark groove. Shabba Ranks’ “Must Love Reggae” is the obvious anchor here, already hinting at the run that would soon make him one of the scene’s defining voices. With ten cuts on one riddim, it sits right in the heart of the late-’80s Jammy’s formula: stripped-down, DJ-led, and built for sound system play.
