Divine Riddim – Wiz Records

Coming out of Trinidad’s wider 2014 reggae-dancehall moment, Divine Riddim finds WIZ Records leaning into a smooth, bass-forward groove with a warm, heartfelt feel rather than the harder bashment edge. Shawn “Mr. Roots” Mitchell, who handles the production and the instrumental version here, brings a bassist’s ear to the rhythm, and you can hear that in the way the pocket stays deep without getting busy. The vocal cuts keep it focused: Benjai’s “Divine Order” sets the tone, Emrand Henry’s “Unconditional Love” leans into the sweeter side, while Dan Sylva’s “Do You Remember” and Red Star Lion’s “I Know” add extra color without crowding the tracklist. It’s a compact five-track set, but it captures that era when Caribbean labels were pushing roots-leaning riddims with enough polish to travel well beyond the islands.
