Coming out of the Barcelona-linked Hilight camp in 2018, Desmai Riddim keeps its focus tight: six cuts in just over 22 minutes, with a moody, mid-tempo dancehall pulse that leaves room for each voice to land cleanly. Yaksta’s “Moment In Time” feels like the anchor, while Symatic’s “Sativa” and Lasai’s “Stronger” lean into a cooler, more reflective side of the riddim, and Sula T’s “Jamaican Party” pushes the energy back up. Kaydy Cain’s Spanish-language turn, “Lo Que Me Viene En Gana, ” gives the set a wider Caribbean-and-Diaspora feel without pulling it away from dancehall’s core bounce. Ricky G closes things with “Version Desmai, ” underlining the producer’s hand on a project that sits neatly in that late-2010s wave of lean, cross-border digital riddims.
