Darkseid Riddim – Wetty-Beatz Productionz

Darkseid Riddim arrived in 2019 from Vincentian producer and artist Wetty Beatz, the same Phillip Bastien who has built a name in soca as both a beatmaker and a frontline performer. By the time this one landed, he already had a reputation for sharp percussion and a modern Afro-soca touch, and Darkseid sits neatly inside that lane.

The riddim is a short, hard-driving soca set with a dark edge in the name and a very forward Carnival pulse in the music. It moves with clipped drums, low-end pressure and enough space for the vocals to punch through, which is exactly why the cuts work. Lyrikal’s “Rukshun” is the one that really gives the project its wider reach, with his Trinidad-born, melody-driven style turning the riddim into something instantly road-ready. Lavaman’s “Throw It Out” adds a rougher Grenadian energy, while Problem Child’s “Nasty Up” brings the kind of aggressive, mischief-laced delivery he has made his calling card in Vincentian soca. Wetty Beatz also voices “Normal, ” and that self-cut helps tie the whole thing back to the producer’s own vision.

It’s a lean release, but not a throwaway one. The five-track package, including the instrumental, shows Wetty Beatz working in the sweet spot between raw fete pressure and polished production, with enough bite to carry the 2020 Carnival season beyond the first listen.
