Produced by King Tubby for Firehouse in 1985, Crank Angle is one of those late-80s-era digital riddims that links the Firehouse and Rockers sides of his catalogue. The set brings together King Asha’s Crank Angle Pt. 2, Peego, Leroy Thompson and King Tubby’s All Stars on Crank Angle, and Anthony Red Rose’s Tempo, with King Kong’s A. I. D. S. and King Everald’s After All showing how the pattern carried from the original 1985 cuts into later versions. Rockers Master also reworks the rhythm on Barrington Turner’s Bid And Bad, Candy Man’s Ganja Palace, Gregory Isaacs’ Curfew, Flourgon’s Dead In Yah, Junior Cat’s Kingston Jamaica, Michael Fabulous’ Kill Another Sound, and Reggie Stepper’s Killing Sound. It’s a sharp, stripped-down Tubby production with that unmistakable Firehouse sound: hard drum pressure, lean bass, and a rhythm that stayed usable well beyond its first release.
