Cosmic Riddim – Precision Productions

Out of Trinidad’s 2012 carnival season came Cosmic Riddim, a five-track Precision Productions set with that shiny, space-age soca feel that was all about movement and release. Bunji Garlin’s “Cosmic Shift” gives it the biggest lift, while Chin Mischif’s “Carni” and Jungle’s “Secret Wine” keep the energy pinned to the road, all skittering percussion, punchy bass and hooks built for fete crowd response. Renzo’s “Soca Rocket Ship” leans into the theme without overdoing it, and Problem Child’s “Crazy” with Danielle Veira adds a lively duet moment that breaks up the solo run nicely. Precision kept the lineup tight, which suits the riddim’s bright, futuristic pulse. It sits neatly in that 2012 wave of Trinidad soca productions chasing big Carnival impact with sharp, high-gloss arrangements and a clear hands-in-the-air payoff.
