Louie V Music and Unruly Entertainment had a sharp little 2018 dancehall set on their hands with Conquest Riddim, a compact juggling that keeps its focus on forward motion and self-belief. The cuts from Quada, Laden, I Waata and Mr Easy sit over a brisk, stripped-down rhythm that leaves room for the voices to carry the message, while Projexx’s “Gifted” comes through twice in clean and raw versions, which tells you how much weight the song was meant to carry. Jahazeil’s “Push On” and Kapella Don’s “Mi Nuh Know” keep the mood locked in the same determined lane, and the instrumental closes things out by underlining the riddim’s lean, no-nonsense construction.
