2013 was a busy year for dancehall riddims, and Colombian Black Jack fits right into that moment with a sharp, region-hopping cast and a blunt club-ready pulse. Natural Dreams Productions lined up 30 tracks and 32 artists here, with voices coming in from Honduras, Panamá, Chile, Mexico, Germany, Brazil and Ghana as well as the Caribbean. Haffid Kandela is credited as the producer behind the project, with Dj Julian Dread in collaboration, and you can hear that hand in the way the set moves from the cheeky bounce of Albeezy’s “Tu Pum Pum” to Barbero 507’s “La Misión” and Natty B’s “Sí Sí Colombia, Sí Sí Caribe. ” The sequencing keeps the energy tight, saving the instrumental version for the close and letting the whole riddim play like a long regional showcase rather than a loose pile of singles.
