COBB WEBB RIDDIM produced by NINE LIFE ENT. 1998
Cobb Webb Overview
Back in 1998, dancehall music was full of energy and attitude. The Cobb Webb Riddim was one of the club-ready riddims that truly showed the rebellious spirit of the time. It was loud, bold, and perfect for the dance floor. Compared to other riddims from that year, Cobb Webb stood out because of its strong sound system vibe and the way it brought different artists together. NINE LIFE ENT., the producer behind the riddim, played a big part in this. Known for building tracks that DJs loved to play, NINE LIFE ENT. helped push dancehall forward in the late ‘90s. The label had a reputation for making beats that worked well in parties and on radio. On Cobb Webb Riddim, artists like Black Champagne, Chuck Fender, and Cutlass delivered some of their best performances. Black Champagne’s “What Can You Do” brought a catchy hook and real emotion. Chuck Fender, who later became famous for his song “Gash Dem,” gave us “Positive Connection.” Cutlass showed his skill on “My Time,” riding the riddim with confidence. Other artists on the riddim include Destry Don with “Rastaman Romantic” and Dingo Blaks with “Big Bad Barretta.” Each artist added their own style, making the riddim feel fresh from start to finish. Compared to other dancehall releases in 1998, Cobb Webb Riddim became a touchstone—something everyone in the scene remembered. It was both fun and powerful, and it still gets played when people want to remember the golden age of dancehall.
