Austere, mid-2000s reggae energy runs through Chalwah Riddim, a three-cut 2007 set that keeps the focus tight and the voices distinct. Ed Robinson opens with “Take It Easy, ” leaning into a smooth, patient delivery, while Nozzle Up Crew’s “To The Left” shifts the mood with a more crew-minded edge and a little more snap in the phrasing. The riddim never gets crowded, which leaves room for each tune to breathe, and that restraint is part of the appeal here. Ras Shiloh, born Thomas Williams in Brooklyn and already well established on rootsy reggae circuits, closes things out with “A Story 2 Tell, ” the deepest and most measured cut on the project, giving the riddim its strongest final note.
