Caribbean Fantasy Riddim – Zim Dancehall – Mash Records

Out of Zimbabwe’s dancehall corner in 2013, Caribbean Fantasy Riddim circles through Mash Records with a tight crew of voices rather than a sprawling cast. The set runs from Josmas’ “My Babey” and Jay Mashaire’s “The Way You Love” through The Tytan’s “Life Goes On” and Captane Dk’s “Usandisiya Ndega, ” with Reign returning twice on “Whisper” and “Whisper 2” to give the riddim its clearest anchor. There’s a local, street-level feel to the whole thing, even as the title nods toward the wider Caribbean, and the tracklist keeps moving between English and Shona lines without losing its dancehall pulse. Empress Tumeka’s “Let Me Go” adds a sharper female voice in the middle, but it’s Reign’s double appearance that leaves the strongest mark.
