Campfire Riddim – G3 Musik

Campfire smoke hangs over this one. G3 Musik’s 2012 dancehall set runs 11 cuts deep and keeps the temperature in that late-night zone, with a handful of songs issued in both radio and raw versions, which tells you the producer was thinking about how the riddim would move in the streets as well as on air. The lineup leans melodic without losing its edge: Denyque teams with Kray-Z on “Stars Will Shine, ” Masicka cuts through with “Live the Life, ” and Zigga’s “Little Something” gets the dual treatment that was common on the better juggling projects of the period. Dahlia opens the door with “In My Arms, ” but it’s Ninja Kid’s “Nature a Rise” that gives the riddim its sharpest imprint, especially in the raw take where the chant settles right into the groove.
