CALABAR RIDDIM produced by CENTRAL RECORDS 2016
Calabar Overview
In 2016, the sound of the truck anthem base was everywhere during carnival season. These powerful rhythms came from the heart of the parade, giving energy to the crowds and dancers on the streets. One of the most important grooves that year was Calabar Riddim, produced by Central Records. This label is well known in the Caribbean for pushing new soca sounds and helping artists reach a wide audience. Central Records is respected for its work with many top soca and dancehall artists, and their productions often get heavy play at major festivals. On Calabar Riddim, several artists brought their own style to the project. Denise Belfon, famous for her hit song "Teacher," delivered her signature strong vocals and dance energy. Kingrilla added to the excitement with "Ya La La," a song that quickly became a favorite for carnival revelers. Orlando Octave, known for his track "Poverty Is Hell," brought a serious message to the lively beat. Prophet Benjamin, with "Light My Fire," gave the riddim a smooth, soulful touch. This riddim was included in many DJ sets during the 2016 carnival, and fans still remember the joyful energy it brought to the parade. With Central Records leading the way, Calabar Riddim became a true highlight of the year’s soca scene.
