CAICOS GAL RIDDIM produced by ISLAND LIFE RECORDS – 2011
Caicos Gal Overview
In 2011, reggae fans were treated to a fresh roots experience with the Caicos Gal Riddim. This rhythm project brought together a warm, laid-back vibe, driven by steady percussion and catchy horn lines. The sound was easy-going, but with enough energy to keep listeners moving. It captured the spirit of classic reggae, while adding new layers through the musicians’ unique touches. The line-up featured respected reggae voices, each bringing their own style. HALF PINT delivered “TIME IS AT HAND,” adding his signature smoothness. Known for his timeless hit “Greetings,” HALF PINT has long been a favorite in reggae circles. JUNIOR X contributed “WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN,” offering thoughtful lyrics and a heartfelt delivery. JIMMY RILEY, a member of the famous vocal group The Uniques and father of Tarrus Riley, sang “LOVE OH LOVE,” showing his soulful side. LUTON FYAH’s “PERFECT STRANGER” brought a rootsy energy, while SIZZLA’s “ONLY YOU” added his well-known passionate vocals. SIZZLA, famous for albums like “Da Real Thing,” is one of reggae’s most prolific artists. NATTY KING’s “GOING HOME” continued the roots tradition with conscious lyrics. The set finished with “LADY OLIMATTA DUB” by WINSTON BOPEEP BOWEN AND CREW, a group led by the legendary Jamaican guitarist Winston “Bo-Peep” Bowen. Behind it all was ISLAND LIFE RECORDS, a label known for supporting reggae artists and releasing roots and culture music. Their careful production brought the songs together into a single, unified sound.
