Burnin Riddim comes in like a straightforward rootsy session rather than some overworked concept set, and that’s part of the appeal: four cuts, a lean lineup, and enough heat to keep the title honest. Anthony B’s “Money” gives the riddim its sharpest edge, with his usual clipped delivery riding the groove like he’s got something to prove, while Sizzla’s “Oh Girl” leans more melodic and heated, the kind of tune that can turn a simple one-drop into a chant. Congo Judah’s title track keeps the fire theme front and center, and Teflon’s “Girlfriend” softens the mood just enough to give the set some balance. Issued in 2007, it sits right in that period when reggae riddim projects were still leaning hard on compact VA sets with strong voice combinations.
