Brawta Riddim – Fi Wi Music

Brawta Riddim has that early-2000s lovers-rock-meets-steppers feel, warm and melodic but still carrying enough drum-and-bass weight to keep the cut moving. Fi Wi Music lines up seven tunes around it, with Jah Mali’s “Jah Keeps Me Singing” and Lenn Hammond’s “Be Your Angel” sitting near the front of the pack, while G Scott’s “Carpet Ride” and Kris Kelly’s “Hanky Panky” add a little extra polish to the set. This was 2004, a busy period for Fi Wi Music, and Brawta sits comfortably alongside their other roots-leaning productions of the time without chasing anything too glossy. The instrumental version is in there too, so the riddim gets its own space, which is exactly how these compact Fi Wi sets were meant to land.
