aka CULTURE TIME RIDDIM produced by AFRICAN STAR
Boom Boom Dance Overview
In the late 1960s, rocksteady brought a slower, soulful rhythm to Jamaican music. This style became the bridge between ska and reggae, shaping the sound of later generations. Decades later, the rocksteady flow still inspires new reggae artists. In 2021, a special reggae set revived this classic groove, connecting modern voices with the roots of Jamaican music. AFRICAN STAR, a respected producer and sound system owner, led the project. Known for his influential African Star label and for working with big names in reggae and dancehall, AFRICAN STAR helped guide the sound and message of this release. Each artist brought their own style to the set. African, with the song "Juggle Fi Me Dread," delivered a steady, confident performance. Bo Bo Zarro’s "Drought" added thoughtful lyrics and a smooth delivery. Bushman, who is well known for his hit "Fire Bun a Weak Heart" and the album "Nyah Man Chant," contributed "Big Talk," showing his strong roots reggae voice. Capleton, a powerful figure in reggae and dancehall, is featured with "Boom Boom Dance." Capleton is famous for songs like "Jah Jah City" and his energetic stage presence. Jah Thunder joins with "Badder Badder," adding a fresh, youthful sound. Other artists in the set include Hero 3 with "Queen Omega," Kulcha Knox with "Fire Ball College," Military Man with "Can't Concieve," Sizzla with "Brutality For Love," and Terry Ganzie with "Them Ask A Who." This reggae set from 2021 stands out for its unity and respect for tradition, while bringing new energy to the classic rocksteady flow.
