Big Time Riddim – One Time Music

Big Time Riddim comes off a little leaner and more current than some of One Time Music’s older, more vintage-minded dancehall work, leaning hard into the modern clash-friendly lane. The 2021 set pulls in Sean Paul, Mavado, Iba Mahr, Jahvillani, Flexxx, Moyann and Rytikal, with Mavado’s “We Nah Listen” appearing in three mixes and Sean Paul’s “Top Celebrity” giving the riddim its widest reach. It’s a taut, minor-key cut with a clipped drum pattern, heavy sub-bass and just enough space under the vocals for each deejay to ride it differently. The clean/raw split on a few tracks also points to how this one was being pushed for radio and street use at the same time. In the end, it’s the low-end pulse and the brisk, forward-driving tempo that keep the whole thing locked together.
