BABYLON COWBOY RIDDIM produced by XTERMINATOR 1997
Babylon Cowboy Overview
In 1997, a roots reggae wave swept through with the release of the Babylon Cowboy Riddim. The journey started in Kingston’s studios, where the classic rocksteady rhythm was crafted by seasoned musicians. Every note was shaped with care, aiming to capture the spirit of Jamaica’s roots music. The project was guided by the roots craftsman known as XTERMINATOR, a label founded by Philip “Fatis” Burrell. XTERMINATOR had already made its mark in reggae, producing hits for artists like Sizzla and Luciano, and was known for its rich, authentic sound. As the riddim took form, top artists joined the lineup. Babylon Cowboy delivered the instrumental Riddim Version, laying the foundation for the other voices. Beres Hammond, famous for his hit “Rockaway” and his soulful voice, brought emotion to Heart Breaker. Gregory Isaacs, known worldwide for Night Nurse, added his signature coolness to Coke Seller. Mikey General’s King David's Offspring and Nadine Sutherland’s Have Some Peace offered uplifting messages, with Nadine already recognized for her early duet with Buju Banton, “Action.” Each artist added their own touch, making the riddim a true showcase of reggae talent. The Babylon Cowboy Riddim became a standout in 1997, blending roots tradition with fresh energy and leaving a lasting mark on the reggae scene.
