High Fence takes the old Ba Ba Boom pulse and trims it down to a lean 2004 reggae session, with just four cuts and a clear focus on roots-conscious messages rather than crowding the plate. The riddim has that skanking, mid-tempo swing that leaves room for the vocals to breathe, and the best moments come when Luciano and Mikey General lean into the spiritual and social side of the cut. Africana and Renegade’s “Show Love” and Jallanzo’s “Struggle” keep the mood grounded, but Luciano’s “Tell I Who” is the one that really settles into the groove and gives the project its center of gravity. Mikey General closes things with “For The Childrens Sake, ” a fitting finish for a compact set that stays true to the conscious side of the rhythm.
