DNL’s 2014 Ayün Riddim sits in that sweet spot where conscious reggae meets a Latin-flavoured, rootsy uplift, and the roster keeps the mood moving without ever feeling crowded. Sgt Remo opens with “Im Free Rough, ” but the selection quickly shifts into Spanish-language cuts from Plucky Man, Jah Bantú, Pablo Livity, Shainy and Adelkys, which gives the riddim a regional sweep that feels more curated than random. DNL keeps the instrumental bright and percussive, with enough bounce for the singjay tunes and enough space for the more reflective voices to breathe. The strongest pull comes from King Cobrizo’s “Viviendo De Esto, ” which lands with the kind of everyday detail that anchors the whole project, while “Tu Ausencia Se Hace Notar” and “No Hay Ninguna” push the emotional register a little deeper.
