Patexx is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae artist from St. Thomas
whose sound grew out of the hard-edged, melodic side of the
island’s street music. Born Rohan Rankine, he began building his
style early, first performing while still in school and developing
a delivery shaped by the music he heard around him, including
influences such as Bounty Killer, Mavado, Spragga Benz and Sizzla.
That mix of raw dancehall energy and singjay phrasing has remained
central to his work.
His stage name, Patexx, became attached to him after an early
industry connection helped him find his footing, and he began
voicing songs that circulated through Jamaican sound systems and
radio. One of the first tracks to widen his reach was “Angella,” a
remake-inspired cut that brought him attention beyond his home
parish. He later drew stronger momentum from songs like “Memories,”
which helped establish him with selectors and producers, and from
the Bounty Killer-assisted “Summer Time,” a collaboration that gave
his name broader recognition in the dancehall space.
As his catalogue grew, Patexx became associated with energetic
party tracks and catchy hooks, but he also kept a footing in more
straightforward roots-and-culture material. Releases such as “Party
Nice” and “Money Me A Pree” reflected that balance, while later
singles continued to show an artist comfortable moving between
club-ready rhythms and more reflective writing. His work has also
appeared on a range of riddims and compilation projects, which has
helped keep his voice in circulation across dancehall’s fast-moving
release culture.
Patexx has also expanded into production, a move that gave his
career more range and helped define him as more than a singer
alone. That broader role is reflected in his later credits and in
projects tied to his Journey Music imprint, where he has worked on
new material while continuing to release his own songs. In recent
years, he has remained active through fresh singles and riddim
appearances, keeping his name present in both Jamaican and
international dancehall circles. The result is a catalogue built on
steady movement rather than one breakout moment: a career shaped by
persistence, collaboration and a clear sense of where his voice
fits in modern dancehall.
