Born Siccature Alcock in Hanover and raised in Kingston, he emerged in the late 1990s with a sound that felt both young and old-school at once: passionate, spiritual, and grounded in everyday emotion. His early break came with the Beres Hammond-produced duet “King in This Jungle,” a collaboration that helped place him within the lineage of polished, melody-led Jamaican singing. Capleton is credited with giving him the name Jah Cure, and that nickname has long matched the restorative, reflective quality of much of his music.
