Artibella Riddim gathers a wide 1970-era run of cuts linked to Phil Pratt and a mix of labels including Sunshot, Studio One, Black Art, Kickin, and Berhane, with the classic Ken Boothe version sitting alongside later takes from Junior Byles, Augustus Pablo and The Upsetters, Big Youth, George Nooks, and Anthony B. The tune traces back to Boothe’s 1970 Sunshot recording for Phil Pratt, and the selection also reaches into roots and later revival territory with Bobby Kalphat’s “Artibella Version” and Augustus Pablo’s “Hot And Cold Version. ” It plays like a broad archivist’s sweep through one enduring Jamaican melody, moving from rocksteady sweetness into deeper reggae and dub-leaning interpretations.
