Aroma Riddim landed in 2013 from Young Vibez Productions, the Jamaican imprint run by Jamie Roberts, who has been behind a long run of dancehall juggling projects. The label’s catalogue already had the kind of street-level, club-ready selections that keep a sound system busy, and Aroma sits comfortably in that lane.

The riddim has a sharp, modern dancehall pulse with enough bounce to carry party lyrics and weed talk without ever sounding flimsy. It moves with a clean, digital edge rather than a heavy throwback feel, which gives the voicings room to cut through. Laden opens with “Always A Smoke, ” a natural fit for his easygoing delivery and ganja-ready persona. Popcaan’s “Bere Gyalniss” brings the biggest name on the set and pushes the rhythm into cheekier territory, while Propa Fade’s “Nuh Gyal Clown” and Versatile’s “Get Gyal Everyday” keep the focus on everyday dancehall swagger.
