John John’s 2005 Anthem Riddim keeps the pressure on with a lean, hard-grooving dancehall swing that leaves plenty of room for the DJs to cut through. Beenie Man’s “Nuh Run Around, ” Buju Banton’s “Body Mechanic, ” and Capleton’s “Girls Play” are the cuts that jump out first, but the juggling has real shape all the way through, from Baby G and Angel Doolas’ opener to the closing instrumental version. John John was already deep into that early-2000s era of crisp, street-ready production, and this one fits right alongside the sharper Soundbwoy-era dancehall of the time. Mad Cobra and Singer J’s “John Dawg” and Sizzla’s “Daily” give the set a late-run kick, while the version at the end leaves the riddim exposed and easy to hear in full.
