Back in 2008, reggae was full of roots-minded projects that kept the chant and conscience side moving alongside the bigger dancehall currents, and Africa Land Riddim sits right in that pocket with a wide cast of voices circling the same theme. Djama Keita’s “Fok Nou Vire” and Yaniss Odua’s pairing with Matinda on “Terre De Nos Peres” give the set some of its strongest regional flavour, while Silver Sean, Baron Black and Ras Mawon keep the Africa-focused message grounded in straight-up roots delivery. Tabernacle Sound Records keeps the arrangement lean and earthy, letting the vocals and message do most of the work instead of crowding the riddim with extra flash. The project runs 15 tracks deep and closes with Ricosax’s version cut, a neat way to leave the instrumental shape of the riddim hanging in the air.
