8 Ball Riddim – Ygr Records / C1m Music

Six voices ride YGR Records and C1M Music’s 2019 8 Ball Riddim, with Chronic Law’s “Nah Lef It” giving the set its sharpest edge and Ajji, Cloraxx, D’ Judge, Donpree and Kyodi filling out the lineup with straight-ahead dancehall cuts. The riddim has that stripped, pressure-cooker feel: a heavy minor-key pulse, tight drum programming and a dark, metallic shimmer that keeps the vocals feeling urgent rather than glossy. Chronic Law’s cut is the one that really locks in the mood, but the whole project keeps a blunt, street-level tone throughout, never drifting far from confrontation and swagger. It closes with the instrumental “Version – 8 Ball Riddim, ” which lays the groove bare and makes the production’s cold, skeletal shape even more obvious.
