Freak Undersheet Riddim lands from Awesome Sound Records as a 2018 dancehall juggling with a clear Caribbean-island connection and a very modern, party-minded edge. Awesome Sound Records had already been active in the lane before this release, with Saint-Martin roots and a small but growing catalog of riddim work, and this project fits that pattern: regional, digital, and aimed squarely at selectors and streaming listeners who want quick-hitting songs over a shared instrumental. The riddim title and the release date line up with the 2018 album listings, even though some reposts later surfaced with more recent database tags.
The lineup is spread across artists who move through different corners of the Caribbean dancehall space. Keros-N is a Guadeloupe-born dancehall and hip-hop voice with a long underground résumé and a reputation for sharp, lyrical delivery. Yogsta, also known in Caribbean dancehall circles, brings a brighter, more melodic turn. Vacaino, Velly, Speyenol, Dr Llynx, 5 Star and Silva J each add their own local flavor, with some cuts sitting in English and others slipping into French or Creole-inflected phrasing, which gives the set a wider island reach than a strictly Jamaican dancehall compilation.
Musically, the riddim has the clipped, flirtatious feel that suits its title: lean percussion, a bouncing low end, and enough space for each singer to push style and attitude. The strongest points come from the songs that land fast and directly. Keros-N’s “Man a Gyalis” and Yogsta’s “Good Body Gyal” are the most obvious dancefloor records, while Velly’s “All Ah Yuh” and Speyenol’s “Entrè Vou É Mwen” add more regional character. Dr Llynx’s “Baby Gyal” and 5 Star’s “My Girlfriend” keep the subject matter in classic dancehall territory, where romance, bravado and streetwise charm do most of the work. As a whole, the riddim feels less like a one-off compilation and more like a snapshot of how island dancehall was being voiced in that moment: local, mobile, and built for replay.
