50 Cal Riddim – Young Vibes Productions

Young Vibes Productions lined up 50 Cal Riddim in early 2015 as a dancehall juggling with a hard, streetwise edge and enough polish to move cleanly between radio and sound system use. The package ran through 21 tracks with clean and raw versions for several cuts, plus an instrumental at the end, and it came out through 21st Hapilos support. That release date sits in February 2015, not later in the year, and the riddim belongs to that run of mid-2010s Jamaican projects that still made room for both airplay-ready edits and grittier uncensored takes.

The voices on it give the riddim its weight. Assassin, now widely known as Agent Sasco, cuts in with “Bad”; Beenie Man appears on “Nuh Play Wid Ppl” and also teams with Candy K on “She Seh”; Popcaan rides “Dem A Knock Off”; I-Octane turns up on “Styling Gel”; Bugle handles “Say She Love Me”; and Versatile closes with “Less Dan Second. ” The tracklist also includes Blak Diamon, Bryka, Deablo, Furtyle Brain and Dasinga-related circulation from the same period, which shows how widely the rhythm was being worked.

Sonically, 50 Cal carries a clipped, militant pulse that suits its name: tense drums, a compact bass pattern and a bounce that leaves room for each deejay’s delivery.
