Abstract Riddim from Stylerstudio Production keeps that early-2010s dancehall energy moving with a quick-hit, voice-heavy format: 28 tracks, 23 different artists, and plenty of room for names to jump in and out with their own angle. G Steel’s “Everybody Waan Be Shotta” and “Run Run Run Run Run” lean into the gunman talk with a sharp, restless edge, while Jah Powaz pulls the thing in a different direction on “Selassie I Crown, ” giving the set a more roots-conscious turn. Elsewhere, Bengie Terror’s “Life” and Brinkks’ “Tough Chat” add some everyday reality talk to the mix, which keeps the riddim from getting too one-note. Dropping in 2013, it sits right in that period when local producers were packing as many cuts as possible onto one rhythm and letting the artists do the rest.
