VETERANS RIDDIM produced by VARIOUS SOCA ARTISTS 2008
Veterans Overview
The Veterans Riddim, also called the carnival jam riddim, made its mark in 2008 on soca mixtapes and at big fetes across Trinidad and Tobago. The mix showed up everywhere that year — playing loud on parade trucks, booming from party speakers, and moving crowds at every major carnival event. The ridim brought together some of the most talked-about artists. General Grant had people jumping with "Dutty Hand." He is known for his work in both soca and dancehall, but "Dutty Hand" became one of his real crowd favorites during Carnival season. King David dropped "Buss Meh Gun," a song that matched the energy of any fete. Gailann came with "Feeling Nice," keeping the party vibes high. Mr Vybe’s "Winnin Time" made waves; around this time, he was building his name as one of the new voices in soca music, later recognized for tracks like "Ting 4 D Road." Tasha kept things rolling with her track "Roll," which had everybody dancing. Other songs on the riddim included Ashanti’s "Wine On Your Boom Boom" and Qpid’s "Take It Like A Man." All these songs rode the same rhythmic backbone of the Veterans Riddim, but each artist brought their own flavor to it. VARIOUS SOCA ARTISTS handled production. This group is known for assembling different performers to deliver upbeat tracks that fit well into Carnival celebrations. Their collaborative approach has put them behind many popular soca riddims over the years. In 2008, the Veterans Riddim really captured soca’s raw power and spirit.
