BUG RIDDIM produced by MAD HOUSE PRODUCTIONS 1999
Bug Overview
MAD HOUSE PRODUCTIONS was the label behind the popular sound system cut of 1999’s Bug Riddim. Known for shaping the dancehall sound of the late 1990s and early 2000s, MAD HOUSE PRODUCTIONS was founded by producer Dave Kelly, who is respected for his work on classic riddims like Showtime and Joy Ride. His productions are recognized for their crisp sound and lasting influence on the genre. On the Bug Riddim, several top artists delivered standout tracks. Baby Cham’s “Ghetto Pledge” showed his lyrical strength, following the success of his earlier hit “Ghetto Story.” Beenie Man, who won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2001, teamed up with Mr Easy on “Haters And Fools,” bringing their unique styles together. Bounty Killer, a dancehall icon, joined Baby Cham for “Another Level,” while also voicing his own track “Look.” Chico’s “Yuh Nuh Care” added another energetic layer to the riddim. The studio hand behind the riddim, Dave Kelly, was known for his tight production and ability to bring out the best in each artist. In 1999, this yard session tape became a favorite in bashment parties and sound system clashes across Jamaica and beyond. The Bug Riddim’s lively beat and strong performances helped define the sound of dancehall at the end of the decade.
