Millbeatz Entertainment’s Yuma Riddim lands a little leaner than some of the bigger soca packages the Trinidadian hit house has put out, and that economy suits it. Released on February 24, 2015, the set keeps to three cuts: Destra Garcia’s cheeky “Give It To Them, ” Olatunji’s “Riddim In We Vein” with its singalong carnival pulse, and the instrumental from Millbeatz itself, all riding a tight, glossy groove that sits squarely in power soca territory. David “MillBeatz” Millien’s name already carried weight by then, but here the focus stays on the road-ready energy and the way Destra and Olatunji each attack the same rhythm from different angles. The release comes in at eight minutes, which is just enough to let the hooky parts hit and the instrumental breathe before it’s gone.
