World Riddim (2014) – Pg Records

By 2014, PG Records had this one locked into a tough little dancehall package, with Black Ryno, I-Octane and Sizzla doing the heavy lifting across nine cuts. The riddim sits in that hard-edged mid-tempo zone, driven by a thick digital kick, clipped snares and a bassline that keeps nudging forward without ever getting too busy. Sizzla gets two runs here, with “Rebel Soldier” and “Red Light” giving the project its most militant charge, while Black Ryno’s “Nuh Bwoy” and I-Octane’s “Gal Ting” keep the energy more direct and street-level. There’s a clean/raw split on a few selections too, which was standard enough for the time but useful here, since it lets the vocal performances breathe against the instrumental’s lean, marching pulse and steady low-end throb.
