Passport Riddim (2014) – DJ Tropical Productions

Mid-2014 dancehall was full of compact, punchy little juggling sets like this one, and Passport Riddim keeps it tight with just four cuts and an instrumental from DJ Tropical Productions. Charly Black’s “Dip N Go Dung” is the obvious ear-catcher, all cheeky movement and party pressure, while Khago comes in on “Zig Zag Wine” with a rougher, more percussive ride that suits the riddim’s quickstep feel. Caldhino’s “You Thing A Happen” adds another layer of streetwise talk, and the DJ Tropical mix at the end ties the whole thing together without overloading it. Released in March 2014 and paired with 21st Hapilos on the official EP, it lands squarely in that era when dancehall was leaning hard into lean, club-ready riddims and one-hook singles that did their work fast.
