WICKIE DICKIE RIDDIM produced by PENTHOUSE RECORDS 1993
Wickie Dickie Overview
The Wickie Dickie Riddim was a standout reggae collection from Jamaica in 1993. The music used a smooth, laidback backdrop, mixing both culture and soul. This riddim brought together some of reggae and dancehall’s most respected voices. Action Fire gave the song "Cant Tek You Man" a lively energy. Beres Hammond, known for his soulful voice and his hit "Rockaway," delivered "No More Pain" on this album. Buju Banton, who would later win a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2011, performed "Dickie." Coco Man added a unique touch with "El Marciano." Cutty Ranks, famous for his hit "Limb By Limb," contributed his own track called "Cutty Ranks." Other artists in the collection included Jigsy King with "Gal A Fuss," Junior Cat with "Make A Living," Junior Tucker with "Julie," Lemsky Don with "Bad Boy," and Leroy Smart with "Worried About You." The roots of this project come from PENTHOUSE RECORDS, a top Jamaican reggae label. Founded by Donovan Germain in 1987, Penthouse became known for high-quality production and for launching the careers of many reggae stars. Their work on the Wickie Dickie Riddim helped shape the sound of 1990s reggae and dancehall. In 1993, this album collection was a cultural gem, bringing together strong voices and rhythms that still sound fresh today.
