WATER STORM RIDDIM produced by SHAK WAVE PRODUCTIONS 2012
Water Storm Overview
In 2012, a fresh wave hit the dancehall scene with the release of the Water Storm Riddim. This project was crafted by SHAK WAVE PRODUCTIONS, a label known for its sharp ear for crossover sounds and its commitment to pushing dancehall beyond Jamaica’s shores. The riddim’s architect, working closely with SHAK WAVE, built a sound system cut that was both bright and powerful, catching the attention of DJs as soon as it dropped. The journey from creation to release was filled with energy. In the studio, the team focused on making a riddim that would stand out among the heavy bashment drops of the year. The result was a lively, pulsing backdrop that invited artists to bring their own fire. Black Berry delivered two standout tracks: “Six Inch Block” and “Road Hog.” Known for his smooth delivery, Black Berry had already made a mark with songs like “Gimme” in earlier years. Predator’s “Dem Dash Mi Weh” added a playful, sharp edge. Predator, of course, is widely recognized for his hit “Mad Sick Head No Good,” which brought him to the forefront of dancehall. Tony Matterhorn, a respected selector and artist, came in strong with “Wah Dem A Try.” Matterhorn is famous for his massive hit “Dutty Wine,” a song that became a global dance anthem. Gallon I’s “Covetous” and Kibaki’s “Have Gal All Over” kept the riddim bubbling with their unique voices and styles.
