VELOCITY RIDDIM (SOCA) – UPRISING STUDIOS 2019

From Trinidad’s 2019 soca season, Velocity Riddim comes in lean and direct, a two-song Uprising Studios set that doesn’t waste a second getting to the point. The project is all quick-footed motion and bright carnival pressure, with Scrilla’s “Intoxication” and Nikman’s “Nasty” carrying the whole thing. Uprising had already been building a soca catalogue before this, and here the focus is tight rather than crowded, which suits the riddim’s name and pace. Scrilla’s cut hits hardest: “Intoxication” has the sharper hook and the more immediate fete pull, giving the release its strongest lift before Nikman closes it out with a grittier, more swaggering turn.
